Forward Movement with Georgianna

All of Georgianna’s work – as a facilitator, coach and consultant – is focused on enabling individuals and groups to move forward. Organizations, teams and individuals, regardless of the specific goals and aspirations toward which they strive, are usually looking to move toward a new state or way of being. As an advocate of physical movement to support psychological and organization progress, G’s approach is grounded in her understanding of these disciplines:

For many situations, the process of change can be challenging. Even when a team, organization or individual is committed to moving ahead in some new way, they often cannot get there on their own. One of the many strategies G uses to address the challenge of transition and change is through physical movement. While this may sound a bit unconventional, using the body and movement to facilitate change is, in truth, an easily-available approach that can yield useful results.

Physical movement and mind/body awareness have been used in these situations in G’s work with groups, organizations and teams:

  • An organizational cross-functional team identifies their collective goal, and then participates in a group session in which they perform a variety of “reaching” movements to help them define the specifics of their vision and how they might go about achieving it.
  • A coaching client gains an awareness of his tendency to stay in the “middle of the road” and not commit to one side or the other. Through a simple movement meditation, he experiences the physical sensations of being in the middle and how this habit has served him…and not!
  • As a means for engaging volunteers in increasing their commitment to a nonprofit organization, individuals create statements of purpose, and then walk toward them, integrating their values and motivations into their movement.
